Expect changes in Fijiana squad
The Telecom Fijiana team may change for the last leg of the Womens Sevens Series in Clermont-Ferrand, France from May 29-30. Fijiana coach Iliesa Tanivula said some players have been down with injuries but their main aim from the beginning was to give all players equal opportunity to play. “The plan from the beginning is to try to give everyone a run and a chance to prove themselves and also to widen the experience amongst the squad and it’s been good,” the former Auckland Blues winger said.
“A lot of the girls have contributed immensely to the programme especially the young ones. We have had a few injuries which are out of our control but it also gives the chance to someone else to prove themselves. So the squad may vary for the next leg.” The one thing Tanivula has been impressed with is the eagerness of the players to play in the final leg as the main focus is the Olympic Games in August. “In every tournament we try and improve from the previous one. The big thing is that these girls are really eager to come back and are hungry for more,” he said. “They have really motivated themselves and that is a good sign, we don’t have to push them, they are the ones doing the pushing and it shows how much Rio means to them. “The last two weeks has been intense and it has been a long season; the feedback from the girls has been amazing.
“Our aim going into this last leg of the series is to keep improving as a team and also individually because there is are lot of things we have learnt.”
Fijiana are pooled with Australia, France and Ireland. The team will depart for France on May 22 .
