CONDEMN DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE: TUITUBOU
Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou told villagers of Nukubolu Village in the province of Cakaudrove to condemn domestic, child and sexual abuse in their community. This was highlighted by Mr Tuitubou following the handing over of sewing machines to the village women’s club. “I want to remind you all of the importance to care for our women and our vulnerable in society because the need is now more evident than ever,” Mr Tuitubou said.
“There is an alarming rise in the prevalence of domestic violence cases as well as sexual assault cases around the country which is why I urge you all not to condone these types of issues and to look after the wellbeing of your loved ones.” He said youths needed to take the lead role in upholding and guaranteeing the safety of members of their community. “Our young men and women need to ensure that our vulnerable members of the community are kept safe from any type of abuse and I ask that you heed this call,” Mr Tuitubou said.
Provincial administrator Cakaudrove Josefa Rokonai shared similar sentiments. “Our women and children are the weakest in society and we need to take the necessary precautions in ensuring their safety because domestic and sexual abuse is widespread throughout the country,” Mr Rokonai said.
