Mag­is­trate is­sues or­der for med­i­cal at­ten­tion

A man charged with con­spir­acy to de­fraud to in­flu­ence a pub­lic of­fi­cial has been is­sued a court or­der to seek med­i­cal as­sis­tance. Asaf Ali ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Mak­ereta Mua at the Suva Mag­is­trate’s Court yes­ter­day. He is al­leged to have con­spired with an­other per­son with the in­ten­tion of dis­hon­estly in­flu­enc­ing Fi­jian Im­mi­gra­tion Of­fi­cers in the ex­er­cise of their du­ties in the is­suance of a pass­port. De­fence lawyer Gavin O’Driscoll yes­ter­day in­formed the court that his client was suf­fer­ing from some heart con­di­tion and bruises which he sus­tained from an ac­ci­dent last month.
