Pastor Stabbed at Home Trying To Save Homestayer
Police have confirmed that a church pastor was stabbed three times by an intruder and his accomplice inside his home when he confronted them trying to rob a Japanese homestayer in another room. Pastor Maciu Cerewale, 43, who is attached to the Children’s Ministry of the Assemblies of God Church, is still admitted at the Lautoka Hospital. He received two stab wounds on his chest and another on his side from a knife believed to have been lifted from the kitchen.
Police said the incident happened just after midnight at Pastor Cerewale’s residence on Vomo Street at Drasa Vitogo, Lautoka. He was in his room using his laptop with an earpiece and could not hear the intruders break in. After they broke in, the intruders made their way to the homestayer’s room where they tried to rob him, but a scuffle broke out. Pastor Cerewale then heard screams of the Japanese homestayer and rushed into the room where he confronted and punched one of the intruders. The second stabbed him and the pair fled after Pastor Cerewale’s family, who were in the house as well, started screaming. A family member, who did not wish to be named said the intruders did not take anything with them.
Police are still conducting investigations and are in the processing of interviewing Pastor Cerewale. Edited by Jonathan Bryce
