Duo accused of Devi's murder seek Legal
Both men also charged with aggravated robbery
Two unemployed men who are charged with the murder of a 71-year-old woman appeared in the Lautoka Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Jovilisi Gadrovai, 29, of Vakatora Housing, and Peni Nakarawa Naidike, 20, of Tavakubu Housing, were both charged on a first count of murder and a second count of aggravated robbery. Gadrovai and Naidike asked to be represented by Legal Aid.
It is alleged that Gadrovai and Naidike, both dressed in purple coloured ‘bula’ shirts yesterday, murdered Sushila Devi of Razak Road on Friday, May 20.
It was also alleged that they ransacked the house and made off with Mrs Devi’s mobile phone, a carry bag, about $120 cash, four tins of fish and a torch light valued at close to $400. Both charges were read to the two accused who agreed that they understood. Magistrate Wickaramasekara gave the accused 20 days to file their notice of alibi explaining that they were not at the scene of the crime if they denied the charges.
Naidike also told the court that he had been assaulted and showed his knee to Magistrate Wickaramasekara, who ordered a medical check at the hospital. He said the medical report was to be presented at the first mention call for the case at the High Court in Lautoka on June 9.
