It’s about time the medical profession is recognised, says the President of Fiji College of General Practitioners. Dr John Fatiaki said he was delighted with Government’s decision to increase the pay for Government-paid doctors.

“This is pleasant news for all for us,” he said. Dr Fatiaki also said he was glad Government recognised their profession. “Our doctors have studied and worked hard for many years and it was about time we get some recognition.” He said that this pay rise would increase better service as well as increase the number of doctors in Fiji.

“This will also help us to keep our highly qualified doctors within the country and provide service to all Fijians. “Students who will be entering the medicine field will also benefit as they will get better pay from the start of their doctorate career,” Dr Fatiaki said.

In the 2016-2017 Budget, Attorney-General and Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on Wednesday announced the pay increase from 56 per cent to 81 per cent for all Government-paid doctors.
