Tomboy tranforms into Queen
Winner dedicates win to parents, sponsors CJ’s Group of Companies
The newly crowned winner of the Duvata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival Miss Nadogo Silivia Besila said she entered the contest a week ago as a tomboy and left the stage on the final eve as queen. “As a tomboy I entered this week long competition but I am leaving the stage crowned as a queen,” Ms Besila said. The 20-year-old of Namoli in Labasa was in tears when the chief guest, Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Semi Koroilavesau crowned her on Saturday night at Subrail Park. Miss Besila sponsored by CJ’s Group of Companies explained that she was in tears for many reasons.
“I would like to dedicate this win to my mum who is in heaven, my dad who is at Nabekavu outside Labasa Town. “Even though they couldn’t witness my crowning I still love them and dedicate this crown to them.” “I would like to thank my sponsor, CJ’s Group of Companies for supporting me and helping me prepare my attire which I couldn’t have done alone,” the youngest of six siblings said.
The first year Bachelor of Arts student majoring in Education, Literature Language and Geography said she advocated on theft the number one crime in the Northern Division.
“I didn’t expect to win this crown because the other contestants were equally talented and prepared,” she said.
“However, during the float procession many people came up assuring me that I would win the crown.
“It felt so good to know that the people in Labasa knew what I was advocating on and they saw confidence in me. “This has really encouraged me to give something back to the people in the North. “I would surely continue to work with the committee in raising more awareness about preventing crimes.”
