FACT for Nadi
Suva captain Pita Rabo’s and Waisake Navunigasau’s attempts was saved by Nadi goalkeeper Vereti Dickson while Madhwan Gounder was way off the mark.
Comments: Nadi coach Joseph Nitya Nand; “We won because we have good structure. “I took charge of this team a month before the FACT and ensured that players get the right training and I did it having a structure in place. “I worked on a game plan where I focussed on maintaining possession. “We were a goal down in the semifinal and our players came back strongly to win and again in the final.
“This is my first victory with a district team and this is indeed a special occasion for me.
“It all went down getting the basics right and Nadi got it right as they had done the hard yards in training.” Suva coach Gurjit Singh: “The penalty shootout is anybody’s game and Nadi was lucky to win.”
Nadi collected $15,000 while Suva received $4,000. Nadi’s Mataiasi Toma and Ilimotama Jese were named player of the tournament and player of the day respectively. Dickson also won the Golden Glove award for the goalkeeper of the tournament.
