Vugalei Bridge down to one lane
There will be a single lane closure on the Vugalei Bridge along Kings Road in Tailevu for emergency bridge deck repair from 10am today.
Fiji Roads Authority chief executive officer John Hutchinson said traffic would be reduced to a single lane to allow the contractor to work on the bridge. “Throughout the repair works, one side of the bridge will remain open, allowing one lane of traffic to operate in one direction, while the other side of the bridge is under construction,” Mr Hutchinson said. He said this work was essential to help prolong the life of the bridge. “Works will include repair to the damaged concrete bridge deck. Please note that there are no alternative routes available, hence motorists are advised to take extra time whilst travelling in the area to avoid delays. And, pedestrian access will be provided.” There will also be a speed restriction of 30km/hr across the single lane. “We are urging motorists to adhere to the speed limits and use caution while approaching and traveling through the work zone,” he said.
Meanwhile, a full closure of the bridge will be from 6pm tomorrow (July 9) till 4am Monday (July 11). “We apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst we repair the bridge which will provide improved access for the local community.”
