PM’s donation helps Gau Secondary students
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has donated 2x40 horse power Yamaha outboard engines to the Gau Secondary School. School principal Mohammad Feroz said the two outboard engines would be used for the school’s 22-feet aluminium boat. He said the school had the boat, but because of the poor condition of the engines it was not safe to use. “This gesture by the Prime Minister has brought smiles to hundreds of students, parents and the teachers as they are now able to come to school and go for weekend out using this mode,” Mr Feroz said.
Speaking about the students, he said: “They come in to school from as far as Lamiti and Malawai and these two villages are on the other side of the island.” Mr Feroz said they were already dropping students and picking them up from their homes after their weekend out. The donation, he said, had reduced the travelling time for students and now they could devote more time to revision and studying.
Before, he said when students travelled long distances they got tired and had to retire early to bed. He said the students were already using this facility and they were really happy to have them. According to Mr Feroz, the Prime Minister had promised them of the donation and they were happy that he had fulfilled his promise. He thanked the Mr Bainimarama for helping to bring quality education to the doorstep to every ordinary Fijian especially to a remote school like Gau Secondary School. Edited by Jonathan Bryce
