Polye’s case to recall PNG Parliament moves forward

Fiji Sun - - World News -

Port Moresby:

A court in Papua New Guinea says the opposition leader Don Polye has the right to bring to court his bid to recall Parliament. Mr Polye was asking for Parliament to reconvene before July 25 to entertain a motion of no-confidence in the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill. The Post Courier reported the Supreme Court ruled Mr Polye made the application in his capacity as an MP and Opposition leader and therefore had the standing to bring the case. This is after the court heard arguments last week that Mr Polye lacked standing because an election petition was pending against him. The court was adjourned to today for the substantive hearing to resume. RNZI
