Fiji gets primarily gets its unique identity from the Fijian culture and history. Fijian language, dances , art, carving, and positive traditions must be treated as Taonga (something to be treasured). The Constitution protects this. However, unless it is a living culture in everyday use, it must suffer from dilution from other outside influences. It should not be confined to archives and museums. The Minister for Culture and Heritage needs to set up a special committee made of enlightened persons to suggest ways and means as to how this can be achieved.
