Robbery! Man to spend 6 years in jail
A30-year-old man was sentenced to six years and 11 months imprisonment for two counts of aggravated robbery. Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne while sentencing Koroi Vekiso said: “The public need to be protected in this country and also the message needs to be given that these offences will be dealt with severe sentences to deter future offenders.” The court facts state that on June 25, 2015 at Lot 56 Upper Ragg Avenue, Namadi Heights; Sang Te Park was driving his vehicle with his wife Mikyung Kim and upon reaching their residence whilst they were still seated in their vehicle, the two unknown suspects opened the doors of the vehicle and assaulted Sang Te Park by punching him on the face. Vekiso admitted that he was the driver in the robbery and that he dropped the unknown suspects at Sang Te Park residence where they robbed the couple. Vekiso then later picked both suspects at their rendezvous point. Vekiso pleaded guilty on August 3, 2016.
For mitigating factors the court considered that Vekiso is married with three children and that he cooperated with the Police. He has a non-parole period of 5 years.
