Mo­torists warned about road thieves’

Mo­torists are be­ing re­quested to be vig­i­lant in light of re­cent crim­i­nal ac­tiv­ity tar­get­ing ve­hi­cles held up in traf­fic jams dur­ing peak hours. “Re­cent re­ports show in­ci­dents where op­por­tunists are tar­get­ing peo­ple trav­el­ing in pri­vate and public transport and have had their phones and valu­ables snatched from in­side their ve­hi­cles,” says Fiji Po­lice chief op­er­at­ing of­fi­cer As­sis­tant Com­mis­sioner of Po­lice Tito Elo. ACP Elo said while a few ar­rests had been made, the Po­lice con­tin­ued to re­ceive re­ports of these of­fences oc­cur­ring par­tic­u­larly along roads that were backed up due to peak hour traf­fic.

“Items stolen in­clude phones, lap­tops and other elec­tronic gadgets,” ACP Elo said. “We are there­fore re­quest­ing mem­bers of the public to be vig­i­lant and look out for would be op­por­tunists who are com­mit­ting these of­fences.”
