Samoan woman who al­leged sex in hid­ing?

Awoman in Samoa who is at the heart of a sex al­le­ga­tion against the for­mer Sec­re­tary Gen­eral of the Con­gre­ga­tional Chris­tian Church of Samoa, Rev­erend Afer­eti Uili is on the run. Ear­lier this year a defama­tion case was filed by Rev­erend Uili in the Supreme Court fol­low­ing an ar­ti­cle in a lo­cal news­pa­per re­gard­ing sex al­le­ga­tions in­volv­ing him. The mat­ter was re­ferred to me­di­a­tion and was suc­cess­ful. The lawyer for Rev­erend Uili, Semi Le­ung Wai asked the Court to list the “me­di­a­tion agree­ment” as a judg­ment of the Court.

How­ever, the Chief Jus­tice, Patu Ti­ava’asue Fale­fatu Sapolu made it clear that he could not en­ter a judg­ment by con­sent with the ab­sence of the woman in­volved. The lawyer for the woman, Alala­toa Rosella Pa­pali’i told the Supreme Court yes­ter­day that she was hav­ing a hard time lo­cat­ing her client. “Un­for­tu­nately I haven’t had any suc­cess in lo­cat­ing the de­fen­dant who seems to be on the run,” said Alala­toa.

“I have left count­less mes­sages with her to get in touch with us and also the con­tact peo­ple… she has not turned up.”
