National Disaster Management Office director Akapusi Tuifagalele said yesterday there was no cause for concern as the rainy weather around the country continued into its fourth day yesterday. However, he has asked the public to heed of a flood alert. The continuous rain which had started last Saturday has raised a flood alert warning. Despite an evacuation centre being activated in Nadera where six families had taken shelter since Monday night, Mr Tuifagalele said the weather was expected to start clearing up from today.

“According to the Met Office (Meteorological Office) the rain should start clearing from tomorrow morning (today),” he said. There has been some sporadic flooding around Rakiraki but there is no cause for alarm. Mr Tuifagalele said people living in low-lying areas should keep an eye out for signs of flooding. He is also urging students to go straight home after school and not to go near flooded drains, rivers or creeks. Edited by Naisa Koroi
