New Supreme Court Judge Wati sworn-in

Anew Supreme Court Judge was swornin by the Pres­i­dent Ma­jor Gen­eral (Ret’d) Jioji Kon­rote at the State House yes­ter­day. Judge An­jala Wati took the Oath of Of­fice be­fore the head of State and in the pres­ence of Chief Jus­tice Judge An­thony Gates. Prior to her ap­point­ment, Judge Wati was serv­ing as Puisne Judge in the Fam­ily Court of Fiji. She be­gan her ca­reer in the le­gal pro­fes­sion af­ter com­plet­ing her Bach­e­lor of Laws de­gree from the Univer­sity of the South Pa­cific and was ad­mit­ted to the Fiji Bar in October, 1999.

She prac­ticed law at a pri­vate firm in Labasa and later as a lec­turer/tu­tor at the New Zealand Pa­cific Train­ing Centre for a year.

She then joined as the regis­trar at the Fam­ily Divi­sion High Court and worked her way up to the po­si­tion of Res­i­dent Mag­is­trate- Fam­ily Divi­sion for Suva, Nau­sori and Nas­inu. Judge Wati was sub­se­quently ap­pointed as Puisne Judge in 2009.
