The Methodist Church wants nightclubs closed at midnight instead of 5am. This is was decided in the church’s annual conference in Suva yesterday. Church’s general secretary, Reverend Epineri Vakadewavosa said the Government would be asked to consider their request. He said most of these club-goers were young iTaukei.

Church’s social welfare secretary, Reverend Iliesa Naivalu, said between 5am to 10am, iTaukei youths roam the streets of Suva on Sunday. He said that was why they did not attend church. Reverend Naivalu said there were 26 nightclubs in Suva excluding Nausori and other parts of Fiji. A retired minister for the church said what was happening with young people of the church was an indication of living ungodly ways. “If we try to ask ourselves as to why the iTaukei youths are involve in such ways than the church should be questioning itself. “We are rich in natural resources like land but yet we still live in poverty and this shows that God has taken away our blessings.

“People have started to rebel against God and this is what appears to be the result of that,” he said.
