EUROPEAN WATCH

Interesting to see the European Union showing such interest in a criminal case against the Fiji Times. So much interest that a senior official of the EU delegation here was present in court yesterday. Talking about the EU. Perhaps next time they send a delegation of journalists on a trip overseas, they will send someone along with them who is not outright disrespectful to journalists and to the Fijian Ambassador to Brussels. Just a thought from one who was there.

One of our editors had the privilege of being part of an Argentinian radio talk show hosted by former rugby players. They wanted to know about the atmosphere here and how many days has been set aside as public holidays after the gold medal win.

When told that next Monday is the public holiday set aside for national celebrations .... they were clearly disappointed. They suggested that three days would be appropriate. Not sure that would quite fit with the PM’s push for national productivity.
