$510,000 WINDFALL FOR RIO 7S HEROES
Acting Prime Minister says: Free buses will take fans to celebration venues; All fans wear blue to welcome Olympians
The triumphant Fijian Sevens reps will receive $510,000 from Government on Monday as reward for winning gold at the Rio Olympic Games. Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General Aiyaz SayedKhaiyum said 13 players and four officials will each receive $30,000 as promised by Government. He revealed that free buses would be provided for fans to travel to the two celebration venues, Prince Charles Park, Nadi, and ANZ Stadium at Laucala Bay, Suva. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said they would discuss with the Fiji Bus Operators Association in providing free buses from Sigatoka, Ba, and various other parts of the Western Division for those who wished to be part of the celebration in Suva. He said other arrangements for public transportation would be made for other parts of Suva including those from areas in Korovou, Tailevu and Naitasiri.
“Buses will most likely be departing from the market areas from their various locations and they will be brought back,” he said. “That transportation of course for the members of the public who want to go and participate in the events will be for free to bring everybody together to show our admiration our support and give our thanks to the fantastic performance.” More details on this will be announced soon. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum outlined the celebration programmes yesterday.
