The Adi Senikau pea­gant has be­come big­ger and bet­ter ev­ery year with this year’s theme be­ing: The rise of the mys­ti­cal ocean, fo­cus­ing on cli­mate change.

One of the con­tes­tants tak­ing part in this year’s event is 29-year -old Esala Seru of Nabua vil­lage in Rewa. He is oth­er­wise known by his pop­u­lar name Marama na Ranadi kei Viti. He was ap­proached by the or­gan­is­ing com­mit­tee to be part of this year’s event af­ter gain­ing pop­u­lar­ity on so­cial me­dia af­ter his videos went vi­ral. “The or­gan­is­ing com­mit­tee called me to ask if I wanted to be part of this year’s pageant,” said Seru. He thought about it be­fore agree­ing to be part of the event, his plat­form ad­vo­cacy theme is on gen­der dis­crim­i­na­tion and hopes to take the ti­tle tonight and con­tinue with the mes­sage.

“I still face dis­crim­i­na­tion ev­ery­day and I be­lieve that there still needs to be more aware­ness in the com­mu­ni­ties,” he said. Seru works as a tour con­sul­tant at Je­vana tours and has been in­volved in youth work over the years and grad­u­ated as a youth peace fa­cil­i­ta­tor from the youth peace de­vel­op­ment pro­gramme (YPDP) un­der the Ec­u­meni­cal Cen­tre for Re­search, Ed­u­ca­tion and Ad­vo­cacy in 2010.

His great­est in­spi­ra­tion is his fam­ily, friends and es­pe­cially his mother. He urges ev­ery­one to come and sup­port the Adi Senikau con­tes­tants and en­joy a night of fun and en­ter­tain­ment. The pageant will be held at the FMF Gym­na­sium at 7:30pm tonight and tick­ets are avail­able at vil­lage six and at Damodar city, Lau­cala Bay. Adi Senikau pea­gant is the big­gest trans­gen­der pageant staged along­side the Voda­fone Fiji Hi­bis­cus Fes­ti­val.
