New Winner For U19
Anew winner will be crowned in the boys Under 19 Tuckers National Secondary Schools Basketball Championship in Suva tomorrow. This was after defending champion John Wesley College did not compete at the pool games in Lautoka earlier this week. Yat Sen Secondary (YSS) will face western giant Natabua High School (NHS) while Latter Day Saints (LDS) face Nadi champion Swami Vivekananda College (SVC). The JWC U19 team had successfully defended the boys’ title since 2014. Defending champions Suva Grammar School is on track to retain the U19 girls’ title but they have to beat a tough LDS in the semifinal while YSS will face NHS in the other semis.
Last year SGS beat Natabua 22-19 in a nail biting final. In the U17 grade, LDS will be defending both the girls and boys titles. LDS meets Gospel High and Jai Narayan College plays St Joseph Secondary (SJSS) in the semi-finals. LDS meets Marist Brothers High School (MBHS) in the U17 boys and JNC play International Secondary School (ISS).
Defending champions Marist Brothers High School will face off YSS in the repeat of last year’s boys U15 final.
LDS face Nadi champion SVC in a pulsating encounter.
U15 girls defending champions LDS will be in full force against YSS while and SGS plays JAS.
Basketball Fiji administrator, Leah Seru said the semifinals and final had to be cancelled off in Lautoka on Tuesday because of the unfavourable weather.
