Two new Le­gal Aid of­fices: So­lic­i­tor-Gen­eral

Le­gal Aid Com­mis­sion opened two more of­fices in Le­vuka and Nabouwalu. This was con­firmed by the Chair­per­son of Le­gal Aid Com­mis­sion, So­lic­i­tor-Gen­eral Shar­vada Sharma at the sign­ing cer­e­mony and launch of the Fiji Ac­cess to Jus­tice Project at the Grand Pa­cific Ho­tel in Suva yes­ter­day. Mr Sharma said in the 2016-2017 bud­get, their plans were un­der­way to open of­fices in Ka­davu and Ro­tuma. “We are also cur­rently un­der­tak­ing study to as­sess other lo­ca­tions where we need to have an of­fice,” Mr Sharma said.

“At this stage, we are look­ing at Seaqaqa, Vu­nidawa and Keiyasi.” Mr Sharma stated apart from the new of­fices through­out Fiji, the Com­mis­sion had also ex­panded the range of ser­vices it pro­vides.

“In the past few years, our ser­vices have ex­panded be­yond as­sis­tance in crim­i­nal and fam­ily law to other civil law mat­ters,” Mr Sharma said. Cur­rently the Le­gal Aid Com­mis­sion now has 16 of­fices through­out Fiji in­clud­ing of­fices in Nau­sori, Nas­inu, Suva, Navua, Si­ga­toka, Nadi, Lau­toka, Ba, Tavua, Raki­raki, Korovou, Labasa, Savusavu and Tavueni.
