Savusavu Tourism Association forms new partnership to promote the destination
The Savusavu Tourism Association is partnering with the Market Development Facility in its efforts to strengthen the organisation and promote the “Spectacular Savusavu” destination.
Under this initiative, the association will work with MDF to strengthen internal governance structures, operational systems, human resources and financial sustainability. The association is focused on growing and improving member services, as well as advocating and marketing of Savusavu as a key tourist destination in Fiji particularly with the importance of tourism to the local economy.
Association President, Justin Hunter, highlighted that since TC Winston in February, tourism in the North, especially in areas like Vanua Levu and Taveuni, has been severely affected. “A lot of our hotels and businesses in Savusavu took a big hit during TC Winston and many are still picking themselves up,” he said. “Tourism is the major economic driver in the town. The Savusavu Tourism Association would like to do more to assist our members in the tourism recovery effort and ensure livelihoods of the people in the town can be built back up.” Mr Hunter said they understand the importance of effective on-line marketing to bring the tourists back. “In our earlier interactions with MDF this year, we cost-shared on the provision of digital marketing support for tourism operators in Savusavu and also hosted a TripAdvisor seminar for the town in June,” he said. “Going forward we realise we also need to get our house in order so we can be an effective and strong association. “We are happy to formalise our partnership with MDF as we build towards a professional and dynamic regional tourism association for Savusavu. “I hope that we can become an example to other small and emerging tourism associations in the North and other parts of Fiji.”
