Paris: Clermont made a statement of intent after beating Montpellier 26-22 in their Top14 clash on Sunday with tries scored by Fijians Noa Naikataci and Peceli Yato. It was a scrappy game throughout but Clermont used their chances better, pouncing on countless mistakes by Montpellier for an impressive away victory over Jake White’s men win.
The visitors held the lead throughout the game thanks to a faultless kicking performance by Camille Lopez. His boot ensured the victory even though Clermont were outscored three tries to two.
All Montpellier’s tries were scored by South Africans as Paul Willemse, Pierre Spies and Bismarck du Plessis all crossed t h e whitewash. But they were guilty of too many errors with sloppy handling errors costing the home side dearly in
