Aproject launched yesterday will facilitate better access to justice, says Chief Justice Anthony Gates. The Fijian Government and the European Union had signed a financial agreement for the project worth $17.3 million at the EU-Fiji Access to Justice Programme at Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva yesterday. Mr Gates said the partnership aimed to facilitate better access to justice for all citizens and to strengthen the justice system overall. “Our endeavours under this programme will be aimed to improve efficiency, ease of use, fairness, the correct application of the law and by new or improved ventures, both technologies and systems, to provide the necessary modern aids for the task,” Mr Gates said.

“These inputs will go to reinforce the rule of law.” European Union Ambassador to Fiji and the Pacific, Andrew Jacobs said the programme was designed to enhance the performance of the justice system in Fiji and facilitate more access for underprivileged and vulnerable groups.
