PM over­whelmed with $345K do­na­tion by cor­po­rate or­gan­i­sa­tions for our 7s he­roes

Prime Min­is­ter Voreqe Bain­i­marama yes­ter­day ap­plauded the do­na­tion of $345,500 from var­i­ous busi­ness or­gan­i­sa­tions. The do­na­tion was in ap­pre­ci­a­tion of the Fi­jian na­tional 7s team win­ning the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics . Mr Bain­i­marama, who is also the pres­i­dent of the Fiji Rugby Union, said: “I would like to thank all those who have do­nated to the Fiji Rugby Union and of course to our rugby 7s he­roes,” he said. “Thank you very much for the won­der­ful do­na­tion and I know it will go a long way to­wards help­ing out the rugby play­ers in their fu­ture.” Na­tional rep Semi Ku­natani was also pre­sented with $30,000 as part of the Govern­ment’s promised con­tri­bu­tion. The other mem­bers of the team re­ceived their cheques dur­ing the na­tional cel­e­bra­tions in Suva and Labasa last week. A cheque of $34,000 was pre­sented by Jack’s Hand­i­craft. Fi­jian Hold­ings Lim­ited con­trib­uted $51,000 and Air Ter­mi­nal Ser­vices handed over $45,500. FIJI Wa­ter con­trib­uted $170,000.

Other do­na­tions in­cluded gift ham­pers with 12 sets sil­ver medal and cross pen­dants by Him­mat Lod­hia of Lords Jew­ellers. Fiji Broad­cast­ing Cor­po­ra­tion chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Riyaz SayedKhaiyum also handed over a sep­a­rate do­na­tion.

FIJI Wa­ter chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Rokoseru Na­balarua thanked the team for their per­for­mance which he said brought joy to the coun­try. “One of our great chal­lenges over the years was to help Fiji be known to the world with our bot­tled wa­ter,” he said. “We are grate­ful that we are able to achieve this with some suc­cess. “Never did we ex­pect that the world be brought to Fiji in a very big way and a won­der­ful suc­cess earned by the Fiji 7s side af­ter their achieve­ments in Rio.”
