Pooja Ready For Miss World Pageant
Preparations have started for the 66th Miss World Pageant says
Andhy Blake. Pageant national director, Andhy Blake said they are waiting for the reigning Miss World Fiji, Pooja Priyanka to arrive in the country. Ms Priyanka was crowned Miss Fiji in May 2016 who will be presenting Fiji at the Miss World Pageant held on December 18 in Washington D.C, USA. Mr Blake said this year they have bigger expectations from Ms Priyanka who has so much talent in many ways. “We are excited because this year we get to work with two established designers who will be designing Pooja’s gowns for the pageant,” Mr Blake said. He confirmed the designer, Hupfield Hoerder, will be preparing a national costume for her, portraying the strong cultures of Fiji. “For our national costume, we have designed incorporating elements of Fiji to reflect all the cultures that make up our society but at the same time, we will stay focused on Pooja’s heritage of IndoFijian,” Mr Blake said. “We are also excited about working with one of Australia’s top designer, Belluccio, who will create her gown for the crowning night and also for the designer gown award. Mr Blake and Ms Priyanka are also working towards the Beauty with the Purpose programme which will carry 80 per cent of the total scores at Miss World. “This year we have decided to focus on some of the relief efforts on what the Tropical Cyclone Winston has done to Fiji.
“We will be working closely to identify a village that needs further assistance. “We will work on raising funds to donate farming equipment,” Mr Blake said. Mr Blake said this year: “Pooja will definitely make it to the top finals as she has been ranked in top ten on the popularity poll around the world. “Currently we are sitting on the sixth place in the popularity poll and we expect it to rise before the Miss World Pageant. Ms Priyanka is currently in Australia and will arrive in Fiji on September 19 and will depart for USA on November 25. Miss World Pageant will be televised live on FBC TV 9pm on December 18th in Fiji.
