Ba River­side Car­ni­val queen proud of achieve­ment

Matila Bouta was a proud daugh­ter af­ter she was crowned Miss Vodafone Ba River­side queen by the At­tor­ney Gen­eral Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on Satur­day night.

The 19-year-old stu­dent of Fiji Na­tional Univer­sity, said there was noth­ing more pre­cious than this mo­ment but was ready for the next chal­lenge as she would now par­tic­i­pate in Miss Fiji Pageant 2016. “I am so proud tonight (Satur­day night) as I have made my par­ents proud. This year has been a strug­gle for my par­ents and I, but this is just the start to the lad­der of suc­cess.” She ex­plained her fa­ther was very sickly and her mother had to strug­gle as well. “It feels so good to make my par­ents proud. I see them ev­ery day and they mo­ti­vate me.” As Ms Bouta came down to thank her par­ents Saliasi Vueti and Kirisi­tiana Qilo for their love and sup­port tears flowed from their eyes as they hugged her proudly. Miss Bouta was spon­sored by Singh’s Rental Fiji and she hails from Nawaqarua vil­lage in Ba. Mean­while Mr Sayed-Khaiyum con­grat­u­lated all the con­tes­tants and said they were brave to show­case their tal­ents and stand for a good cause and for the bet­ter­ment of the coun­try.

With a fo­cus on this year’s car­ni­val theme of ‘Ed­u­ca­tion our fu­ture’ Mr SayedKhaiyum re­minded the crowd of Govern­ment’s ef­fort in mak­ing sure all chil­dren at­tend schools. At least com­plete their high school ed­u­ca­tion. “We now have schol­ar­ships that are given on an open merit sys­tem on a cred­i­ble sys­tem. We want more doc­tors, nurses, marine sci­en­tists, town plan­ners, sur­vey­ors, for­est con­ser­va­tives and var­i­ous others places where we need in par­tic­u­lar is en­gi­neer­ing.

“If they don’t get a schol­ar­ship and still get a place in Univer­sity they can come to the govern­ment and govern­ment will pay for it,” he said.

He also told the peo­ple about the tech­ni­cal col­leges which could help those who want to use their own tal­ents. He also re­minded peo­ple that ed­u­ca­tion was the key to suc­cess.
