Ba Riverside Carnival queen proud of achievement
Matila Bouta was a proud daughter after she was crowned Miss Vodafone Ba Riverside queen by the Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on Saturday night.
The 19-year-old student of Fiji National University, said there was nothing more precious than this moment but was ready for the next challenge as she would now participate in Miss Fiji Pageant 2016. “I am so proud tonight (Saturday night) as I have made my parents proud. This year has been a struggle for my parents and I, but this is just the start to the ladder of success.” She explained her father was very sickly and her mother had to struggle as well. “It feels so good to make my parents proud. I see them every day and they motivate me.” As Ms Bouta came down to thank her parents Saliasi Vueti and Kirisitiana Qilo for their love and support tears flowed from their eyes as they hugged her proudly. Miss Bouta was sponsored by Singh’s Rental Fiji and she hails from Nawaqarua village in Ba. Meanwhile Mr Sayed-Khaiyum congratulated all the contestants and said they were brave to showcase their talents and stand for a good cause and for the betterment of the country.
With a focus on this year’s carnival theme of ‘Education our future’ Mr SayedKhaiyum reminded the crowd of Government’s effort in making sure all children attend schools. At least complete their high school education. “We now have scholarships that are given on an open merit system on a credible system. We want more doctors, nurses, marine scientists, town planners, surveyors, forest conservatives and various others places where we need in particular is engineering.
“If they don’t get a scholarship and still get a place in University they can come to the government and government will pay for it,” he said.
He also told the people about the technical colleges which could help those who want to use their own talents. He also reminded people that education was the key to success.
