Dhaka at­tack mas­ter­mind’s deputy killed

Dhaka: The ‘sec­ond-in-com­mand’ of Bangladesh’s home­grown ex­trem­ist out­fit who trained the mil­i­tants for carrying out the cafe siege, the coun­try’s worst ter­ror at­tack, was killed in a raid on their hide­out, Po­lice said. ‘Mu­rad’, or ‘Ma­jor Mu­rad’ as re­ferred to by the mem­bers of his out­fit, was iden­ti­fied as the de­ceased dur­ing a raid on a house in Dhaka’s Rupnagar area late Fri­day night, De­tec­tive Branch Ad­di­tional Deputy Com­mis­sioner San­war Hos­sain said. Po­lice said he was the deputy of top Neo-Jama’atul Mu­jahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leader Tamim Ahmed Chowd­hury, the mas­ter­mind of the July 1 at­tack on Ho­ley Ar­ti­san Bak­ery in the diplo­matic area that claimed 22 lives, mostly of for­eign­ers.
