Rape case goes to High Court

The case of two men charged with rape and as­sault of a woman was yes­ter­day trans­ferred to Lautoka High Court by Lautoka Mag­is­trate Rara­masi Salak­abou. Avi­nesh Prasad, 27, is charged with two counts of as­sault caus­ing bod­ily harm and one count of rape while the other ac­cused, Nis­chal Chand, 37, is charged with one count of as­sault caus­ing bod­ily harm and one count of rape. Po­lice Prose­cu­tor, Mun Sami Chetty told Mag­is­trate Salak­abou that their of­fences were in­dictable and se­ri­ous. He fur­ther told court that the case was of public in­ter­est. Mag­is­trate Salak­abou has re­manded both men in po­lice cus­tody. They will ap­pear at the High Court in Lautoka on Septem­ber 23, where they can make their bail ap­pli­ca­tion.

It is al­leged that on Septem­ber 7, both Prasad and Chand went drink­ing in a Lautoka night­club where they met the vic­tim and took her to Lo­molomo beach, Lautoka, where the in­ci­dent al­legedly took place. Edited by Ne­mani De­laibatiki
