Usa­mate ready for new chal­lenges

The Min­is­ter for Health and Med­i­cal Ser­vices Jone Usa­mate is ready to take up the Min­istry of Em­ploy­ment, Pro­duc­tiv­ity and In­dus­trial Re­la­tions port­fo­lio. In an in­ter­view dur­ing his visit to Labasa yes­ter­day, Mr Usa­mate said he was look­ing for­ward to this new chal­lenge.

“As a min­is­ter and politi­cian we are to stand ready to do what the Prime Min­is­ter calls for,” Mr Usa­mate said. “The Prime Min­is­ter has the fi­nal say on which min­is­ter does what.

“At the end of the day all our fo­cus is to serve the peo­ple of Fiji to the best of our abil­ity,” Mr Usa­mate said. “I wish the in­com­ing Min­is­ter for Health and Med­i­cal Ser­vices Rosy Ak­bar all the best as this min­istry would be chal­leng­ing also.

“There is a five year strat­egy plan in place which fo­cuses a lot on preven­tion for pub­lic health.

“There are lot of things needed to be done to stop peo­ple from get­ting sick, look­ing at our health cen­tres and hos­pi­tal,” he said. “To­day is my last event in Labasa as the Min­is­ter for Health and Med­i­cal Ser­vices,” he said dur­ing the World Sui­cide Preven­tion Day at Subrail Park in Labasa. “It has been an hon­our serv­ing and look­ing af­ter the peo­ple in this min­istry.” The cur­rent Min­is­ter for Em­ploy­ment, Pro­duc­tiv­ity and In­dus­trial Re­la­tions Semi Koroilavesau will be the Min­is­ter for Fish­eries.
