Ton­gan com­mu­nity in NZ fight for lan­guage’s growth

Welling­ton: Uike Ka­toanga’i ‘o e Lea Faka-Tonga or Ton­gan Lan­guage Week was cel­e­brated in New Zealand last week. This year’s theme fo­cussed on ob­serv­ing how Ton­gan cul­ture has shaped the coun­try. Ton­gan is the third-largest Pa­cific group in New Zealand with just over 60,000 peo­ple iden­ti­fy­ing as Ton­gan. The week of cel­e­bra­tions had kicked off in Welling­ton last Sun­day fea­tur­ing over 20 churches and com­mu­nity or­gan­i­sa­tions. RNZI
