TO HIS DEATH FROM MOVING CAR

An eight-month-old child died after falling out from the back seat of a moving vehicle in Rakiraki yesterday morning. The tragic accident happened at 8am, about 20 metres from the toddler’s house at Colasi, a settlement situated at the back of the Penang Sugar Mill. Joakim Jalesi Nainima died instantly after falling on to the gravel road. He was the son of Penasio Nainima, a sugar mill employee and his wife, Roslyn Magnus. The car was being driven by the child’s uncle, a 28 year old, who is expected to appear in the Rakiraki Magistrates Court this morning. The victim was sitting in the back seat with three other children when he allegedly fell out of the moving vehicle from the rear right door. Police were trying to ascertain how the toddler fell out, as it is believed one of the other three children was sitting near the door. The baby’s parents could not be reached for comment, as they were at the Lautoka Hospital, where a post mortem was being carried out. Other family members were too distraught to talk.
