Car­jack­ing ac­cused ap­pears in court

A suspect who was al­legedly in­volved in a car­jack­ing in­ci­dent in Lau­toka last Thurs­day ap­peared in the Lau­toka Mag­is­trates Court yes­ter­day. Ase­lai Waqani­valu, 28, un­em­ployed of Ravou­vou Street, in Lau­toka is charged with one count of ag­gra­vated rob­bery and three counts of theft. He was ar­rested by Po­lice on Mon­day. Mag­is­trate Rara­masi Salakubou re­ferred the case to the High Court, cit­ing it as an in­dictable of­fence. The case was ad­journed to Oc­to­ber 14 for men­tion at the Lau­toka High Court. Busi­ness­man Im­tiaz Shaukat Ali, 40, his wife Shahina Nazmeen Hus­sein, 25, and their two chil­dren were vic­tims of an at­tack as they parked at the Hari Lal In­vest­ments shop at Kash­mir in Lau­toka around 7.30pm. The men drove off with the cou­ple’s Toy­ota Prado, which was later found aban­doned at Saru.
