USP To Undergo Major Restructure
Also outsource mailroom services
The University of the South Pacific (USP) will undertake a major restructure of its Properties and Facilities (P&F) section and will also seek to outsource its mailroom services soon following an independent review of P&F operations.
USP’s Vice-President Properties and Facilities and Regional Campuses Giulio Masasso Tu’ikolongahau Paunga said, the Review’s report was thoroughly analysed and discussed before the final decision to undertake this major restructure. “The Review had identified serious risks that the current operations and organisation of P&F posed for the University’s drive for excellence,” Mr Paunga said. He noted the review had identified key areas of improvement to increase efficiency with an emphasis on strategic management, strong business partnership, advisory services and custodian in maximising the outputs of the University’s vast physical infrastructure. P&F oversights and manages the properties and facilities at the main Campus in Laucala, two Campuses in Lautoka and Labasa, and 11 Regional campuses in each member country. In addition to these 14 Campuses, there are 11 regional centres.
“Given the crucial role of properties and facilities in the University’s drive for excellence and its commitment to cost-effective and professional services, the University needs a new and innovative approach that will bring in specialised knowledge and better service delivery across the University’s 14 campuses,” Mr Paunga said. The P&F section will be replaced by a new Estates and Infrastructure Division that separates service delivery and operations from asset strategy and management that has a clear focus on strategic infrastructure planning and development, alignment with the learning and research, and sustainability, among others. According to Dr Paunga, the proposed new structure is developed to focus on the section’s core functions and activities, while the noncore activities will be outsourced.
