NEW BOAT FOR BEQA SCHOOLS
About 145 student of Rukua/ Raviravi Primary School will now be able to travel in a boat to school, all thanks to the Government of the day.
Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Mahendra Reddy yesterday presented the boat and engine to the village elders at the Waisomo House in Suva.
Children from the Rukua, Raviravi, Waisomo, Nalati and Valeilawa Settlement on Beqa Island will benefit from the boat. Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy said: “We have assisted Beqa schools a lot and the reason that we are now assisting schools in the maritime and interior because they have been forgotten for long.” “Most of our money we are now devoting it to interior schools because we need to catch up,”he said. Mr Reddy has urged the member of the Beqa not to misuse the boat and it is for transportation of the from their home to school and school to home. The ministry also gave $15,000.00 to the Rukua/Raviravi Primary School for the repair and maintenance work of the school. Rukua/Raviravi Primary School headteacher Jovilisi Tora said: “We are happy to receive the boat from the Ministry of Education.” “The people of Beqa are thankful to the Fijian Government for their imitative.
“The boat will also greatly help in the transportation of the students and teachers to Navua especially during emergency cases,” he said. Mr Taro said seeing this new boat, children will be inspired to come to school every day.
