About 145 stu­dent of Rukua/ Ravi­ravi Pri­mary School will now be able to travel in a boat to school, all thanks to the Govern­ment of the day.

Min­is­ter for Ed­u­ca­tion, Her­itage and Arts Ma­hen­dra Reddy yes­ter­day pre­sented the boat and en­gine to the vil­lage el­ders at the Wai­somo House in Suva.

Chil­dren from the Rukua, Ravi­ravi, Wai­somo, Nalati and Valeilawa Set­tle­ment on Beqa Is­land will ben­e­fit from the boat. Min­is­ter for Ed­u­ca­tion Ma­hen­dra Reddy said: “We have as­sisted Beqa schools a lot and the rea­son that we are now as­sist­ing schools in the mar­itime and in­te­rior be­cause they have been for­got­ten for long.” “Most of our money we are now de­vot­ing it to in­te­rior schools be­cause we need to catch up,”he said. Mr Reddy has urged the mem­ber of the Beqa not to mis­use the boat and it is for trans­porta­tion of the from their home to school and school to home. The min­istry also gave $15,000.00 to the Rukua/Ravi­ravi Pri­mary School for the re­pair and main­te­nance work of the school. Rukua/Ravi­ravi Pri­mary School head­teacher Jovil­isi Tora said: “We are happy to re­ceive the boat from the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion.” “The peo­ple of Beqa are thank­ful to the Fi­jian Govern­ment for their im­i­ta­tive.

“The boat will also greatly help in the trans­porta­tion of the stu­dents and teach­ers to Navua es­pe­cially dur­ing emer­gency cases,” he said. Mr Taro said see­ing this new boat, chil­dren will be in­spired to come to school ev­ery day.
