Fiji Darts to set selection criteria

The criteria for players wishing to take part in the 2018 South Pacific Darts Championship in Vanuatu will be given out by the end of the year.

Fiji Darts Association president Nyla Alfred said yesterday the committee would be setting out a list but they have an idea of what they would be looking for. “Even though the committee has yet to decide on a final criteria, but we have an idea of what we will be looking at for those players who are interested,” Alfred said. “We will be looking at the standing of the players throughout all tournaments this year and next year to make sure that they are consistent. “Consistency is important and that is one thing we will be looking at because we want to make sure these players are improving in each game and not the other way round. We will be looking at whether they are team players and can work well in a team environment. “Their character would be another thing we would be looking at. These are not the only criteria we will be looking at and it is just some of the things I know we will look at. “When we hand it out at the end of the year, those interested in trying out for the team for the championship will know what we are looking for. “Since taking part in such a competition overseas is a first for Fiji Darts. “We will be seeking help from other sporting federations and FASANOC to help us come up with criteria.” Alfred also said that two Nauru teams would most likely to come down next year for competitions which would be a preparation platform. “The same Nauru team who came down last month said they want to come down again next year as well. “Nothing is set but we are working on getting them back here because having competition with them would be good and we will use it as a platform to test our players.

“We will still be holding trials next year as well, so it will be a very exciting year for Fiji Darts.” Edited by Leone Cabenatabua
