Man­isha, Fam­ily’s Hope To Get Out of Poverty

Her fa­ther told her she was their fam­ily’s only hope to get them out of poverty.

Man­isha Suresh Nair was emo­tional as she re­vealed this on Fri­day af­ter be­ing awarded with top aca­demic awards for 2016 at Cuvu Col­lege in Nadroga. Ms Nair re­ceived an award for most Out­stand­ing Arts stu­dent and also scooped medals for scor­ing high­est marks in Year 13 English, Math­e­mat­ics, Geog­ra­phy, Eco­nomics and His­tory.

“I am glad that I re­ceived this award. Not only for the sake of my hard work but be­cause of my par­ents hard work, strong en­cour­age­ment and their faith in me,” Ms Nair said.

It was for that rea­son, he could not come to wit­ness her daugh­ter’s big day. Her mother, Saro­jni Devi said: “My daugh­ter has made us proud and happy to­day. “Her fa­ther will be very happy.” Ms Nair said grow­ing up in poverty made her lonely. But her par­ents strug­gle made her strive for what she has achieved. She said she now looks for­ward to join Univer­sity of the South Pa­cific and study Busi­ness and Eco­nomics. “I want to get my par­ents out of poverty and give them a life they de­serve.” She said she would have
