Manisha, Family’s Hope To Get Out of Poverty
Her father repairs shoes to support their family of seven in Kulukulu, Nadroga.
Her father told her she was their family’s only hope to get them out of poverty.
Manisha Suresh Nair was emotional as she revealed this on Friday after being awarded with top academic awards for 2016 at Cuvu College in Nadroga. Ms Nair received an award for most Outstanding Arts student and also scooped medals for scoring highest marks in Year 13 English, Mathematics, Geography, Economics and History.
“I am glad that I received this award. Not only for the sake of my hard work but because of my parents hard work, strong encouragement and their faith in me,” Ms Nair said.

It was for that reason, he could not come to witness her daughter’s big day. Her mother, Sarojni Devi said: “My daughter has made us proud and happy today. “Her father will be very happy.” Ms Nair said growing up in poverty made her lonely. But her parents struggle made her strive for what she has achieved. She said she now looks forward to join University of the South Pacific and study Business and Economics. “I want to get my parents out of poverty and give them a life they deserve.” She said she would have
