Tough Kiwi for Sebastian Singh
Veteran New Zealand boxer Daniel Maxwell faces upcoming Sebastian Singh in the main bout of the King of the Ring Promotions at Prince Charles Park, Nadi this Saturday. This was confirmed yesterday by promoter Mohammed Shane Riaz indicating it’s going to a be good test for Singh. “We cannot get the World Boxing Foundation’s International light welterweight title because the proposed opponent cannot be released for the fight,” Riaz says. “But we’re glad that Maxwell a veteran boxer in New Zealand has taken on the challenge three weeks ago and is now coming over for the 10-round fight. This is going to be a good test for Sebastian.”
GRUDGE MATCH The 8x3-minute round main supporting bout has been dubbed the grudge match where Fiji featherweight champion Krishna Mudaliar takes on hard hitting Saimoni Ratu. In their earlier fight in 2011, Ratu won by knockout.
“This is going to be a thriller,” Riaz said.
OTHER BOUTS In the 6x3-minute supporting bouts sees Fiji middleweight champion Opeti Tagi who is working hard to resurrect his career takes on Lautoka slugger Kunal Nair. Tagi who at one stage moved up to the cruiserweight division is not making a return to his weight category. In his preparation, the Naitasiri native says, he has moved back to his training camp in Serea to prepare for this fight. The other clash sees veteran Lautoka strongman, Wahid Khan fighting Tomu Gaunavou of Suva. Gaunavou in his last fight put on a gutsy performance against Johnny ‘Machine Gun’ Singh where he lost narrowly on points.
The final of the six round fight, marks the return of Nereo ‘The Terminator’ Cakautini taking on Sam Foster of the Jittu Boxing Stable (JBS), Raiwaqa. JBS trainer Marika Yalimaiwai said that Foster is one of their amateur boxers who is now making his professional debut.
“We’re grateful to the promoter for giving us this opportunity and we call on boxing fans in the West to come and watch the fight as many of our upcoming boxers are participating,” Yalimaiwai added. Edited by Osea Bola
