Canada won the 2016 FANCA Muslim World Cup at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday. For the first time, the Milad Rahmati-captained side in an epic showdown defeated Australia 3-1 to take home the silverware. Versatile striker Milad Mehrabi scored two goals to keep the Canadians in the lead 2-1 in the first half.

What happened:

The game was delayed for 15 minutes in the first half after two Canadian players were red carded because of violent conduct and using abusive language. Referee Adriu Nasoki red carded Milad Rahmati and Mohammed Nadim Janif, who was sitting on the bench.

The Canadian players and fans vented their anger on the referee. Australia opened the scoring through a penalty by Mohammed Naeem Rahimi in the 12th minute. Mehrabi scored the equaliser in the 30th minute.

It was a nail- biting encounter as both teams tried to break the deadlock. And it came in the 55th minute through Mehrabi.
