Fijian rugby is still enjoying the impact of our first Olympic gold victory. The mere fact that our boys are still being invited to celebrations, two months after the conquest, speaks volume. Now it’s World Rugby calling on the expert knowledge of our 7s captain, Osea Kolinisau, to be part of a high-powered panel at the annual World Rugby Conference and Exhibition 2016 (ConfEx) next month. The panel includes World Rugby’s Head of Competitions and Performance Mark Egan, USA men’s sevens coach - Mike Friday and Giles Morgan – HSBC Global Head of Sponsorship and Events. They will analyse and share their thoughts about ‘Rugby sevens beyond Rio – the golden opportunity.’

Kolinisau will be the first Fijian to speak at such an event. What an opportunity for Fiji, Fijian rugby and world rugby. World Rugby boss Brett Gosper called the Rio experience a “brilliant debut” for sevens at the Olympic Games.

It has also brilliantly propelled Fiji to the forefront of rugby development. The first was witnessed last week, when Prime Minister and President of the Fiji Rugby Union Voreqe Bainimarama, signed a deal with the Australian Rugby Union. The deal, which was three years in the making, will now see Fiji playing in the Australian National rugby competition – another first in the world of rugby. When Kolinisau speaks at the panel on November 14 -15 at the Hilton London Metropole, we can bet on a few things: the development of Fiji Rugby (both men and women) will be central rugby is about inspiring those around you he will be speaking from his heart

Congratulations to Koroibetes

Code-switching star, Marika Koroibete, chose to wed his Savusavu sweetheart at his village on the border of Namosi and Naitasiri Provinces yesterday.

Naraiyawa Village was a hive of activity as family and relatives gathered to celebrate. The celebrations will no doubt, continue for a few days. The newly-weds have been together for a while. They have a son, Ilaitia. Emma Koroibete is ready for the days and even weeks when Koroibete will be away from home. But she is determined to put her son and husband first in their new journey together. Family first, rugby second.

As they continue their journey in this life, we wish them a prosperous future. Big congratulations to Marika and Emma!.
