The International Weightlifting Federation World Youth Championships and Commonwealth Championships will be held in Penang, Malaysia next week.

The competition starts with the WYC and will be followed immediately by the Commonwealth Championships.

Five Fiji lifters will take part in both championships. Eileen Cikamatana, who won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Championships in the 63Kg weight division in Samoa last year will participate in the +69kg in the 2016 IWF World Youth Championships. Cikamatana’s results from the World Youth Championships

will be counted towards the Commonwealth Championships and she does not have to lift again in the Commonwealth Championships, as this is a backto-back competition.

Vaivai is the defending gold medallist from the last Commonwealth Championships in Pune, India in 2015.

Ulina Saqone won golddal in the 53kg at the Commonwealth Youth Championships in Samoa 2015.

Weightlifting Fiji president Chris Yee is looking at some good positive results from the two Championships. “We thanked the Government, Fijian National Sports Commission and FASANOC for their financial support towards the team’s participation in Malaysia,”Yee said.

Apolonio Vaivai.
