Drug im­por­ta­tion sus­pect re­manded

High Court judge, Jus­tice Salesi Temo will be hand­ing down his rul­ing on a bail ap­pli­ca­tion on Novem­ber 18 for a woman charged with il­le­gal im­por­ta­tion of il­licit drugs. The mat­ter was called at the High Court in Suva yes­ter­day where state pros­e­cu­tor Lave­nia Bog­i­tini sought time from the court to re­spond to the de­fence bail ap­pli­ca­tion.

The ac­cused 27-year-old Sera Vakula is al­leged to have re­ceived a par­cel of metham­phetamine weigh­ing 27.4 grams con­cealed in a sham­poo tube sent from the United States last De­cem­ber. Vakula, a mother of two chil­dren, was rep­re­sented by Le­gal Aid lawyer, Nam­rita Mishra. She has fur­ther been re­manded in cus­tody. The case has been ad­journed to Novem­ber 18 for the rul­ing on the bail ap­pli­ca­tion.

in 2014. Jus­tice Achala Wen­gap­puli has or­dered corrections to take Hur­tado to the Colo­nial War Memo­rial Hos­pi­tal for med­i­cal treat­ment.

Hur­tado’s trial date has been set for May 22 to June 9 next year. The case has been ad­journed to De­cem­ber 14 for men­tion.
