Maths Top­per Shanal Thanks Par­ents, Teacher For Suc­cess

He also topped Year 13 in ac­count­ing, eco­nom­ics and com­puter science

Maths is a sub­ject of a lot of cal­cu­la­tions, you just have to know the tech­niques of work­ing num­bers out, says the maths top­per, Shanal Kumar, of Lautoka. Shanal Kumar of Natabua High School said this as an ad­vice to all those stu­dents who do not like maths. This af­ter he was awarded a tro­phy in recog­ni­tion of scor­ing 100 /100 in Math­e­mat­ics in 2015 the Fiji Sev­enth Form Ex­am­i­na­tion dur­ing the Natabua High School Aca­demic Awards night on Thurs­day. Shanal, who is now study­ing bach­e­lor of com­merce at the Univer­sity of the South Pa­cific, said maths was his favourite sub­ject and he en­joyed ev­ery mo­ment of mas­ter­ing the tech­niques of solv­ing each prob­lem. Not only that made him the high­est sub­ject scorer for maths alone, but he bagged other awards for scor­ing high­est in ac­count­ing 99/100, eco­nom­ics 91/100 and com­puter stud­ies 91/100. The 19-year-old of Love Sea Side Lautoka thanked his par­ents and teach­ers for the achieve­ments he was recog­nised for by the Natabua High School as he left for ter­tiary stud­ies. His mother, Prem Lata, said her son’s love for maths and ac­count­ing mo­ti­vated him to work hard to achieve such re­sults. “We are very proud of him. He is do­ing what he loves and we are con­fi­dent of his choices.” Shanal said now he wished to fur­ther his ca­reer in ac­count­ing or hu­man re­sources and would aim to give his best level of per­for­mance.
