The Fi­jian Elec­tions Of­fice will, for the first time, con­duct the Fiji Na­tional Univer­sity Stu­dent As­so­ci­a­tion elec­tions.

In to­tal, there are 33 can­di­dates se­lected from the four re­spec­tive cam­puses.

The elec­tions will be held at the Labasa, Ta­mavua, Koronivia and Pasi­fika cam­puses re­spec­tively on Tues­day from 8am to 8pm. Be­low are the pro­files of some of some of the can­di­dates who have been nom­i­nated for the re­spec­tive posts. Edited by Naisa Koroi

Ab­dul Shaeed Oc­cu­pa­tion: School Teacher Mother’s name: Rah­mun Nisha Oc­cu­pa­tion: School Teacher Back­ground Born in Ba but liv­ing in Suva since 2015 to study. Had lived and stud­ied in Morocco from 2011 to 2014. Haven’t re­ally lived in Ba as a home for the past 6 years. How im­por­tant is this elec­tion for you? This elec­tion is im­por­tant for me be­cause it means I am in a unique po­si­tion to help FSMedSA (Fiji School of Medicine Stu­dents’ As­so­ci­a­tion) to tran­si­tion smoothly as a Branch of FNUSA.

Lots of things will change for us and I feel that FSMedSA needs some­one who is aware of the new pro­cesses and pro­ce­dures and hav­ing made those pro­cesses and pro­ce­dures, I feel I can en­sure that it is a less bumpy ride for the ex­ec­u­tives.

Fam­ily: Her fa­ther is Rev­erend Adriel Sami who is the cir­cuit min­is­ter of Dilkusha Methodist Church. Her mother is Alice Sami and is a kinder­garten teacher at Dilkusha Methodist Kinder­garten. She has two sib­lings - a sis­ter, Alissa, ( twin sis­ter) and a younger brother Aaron. Back­ground: Was born on Novem­ber 26, 1992. Was brought up in Tave­uni. Fam­ily moved to Suva later and have been here since she was four years old. Fam­ily cur­rently re­sides in Dilkusha, Nau­sori. How im­por­tant is this elec­tion for you?

I be­lieve that ed­u­ca­tion is not just about books or be­ing in­side the class­room, but a lot more. This is what mo­ti­vated me to run for the po­si­tion of Ed­u­ca­tion Chair­per­son be­cause I hope to bring about holis­tic changes to our ed­u­ca­tion sys­tem, both in and out of the class­room. Also, be­ing part of the Ed­u­ca­tion com­mit­tee this year made me re­alise that so much more can be done for the stu­dents.

Name: Ilis­apeci Raisami Age: 27 Nom­i­nated: Trea­surer Cam­pus: Labasa Cam­pus Ed­u­ca­tion: First year stu­dent at the Fiji Na­tional Univer­sity and study­ing Bach­e­lor in Pri­mary Ed­u­ca­tion. Fam­ily and Back­ground:

Orig­i­nally from Nac­ula in the in­te­rior of Saqani but liv­ing at Vale­ba­soga in Labasa. Fa­ther’s name is To­masi Tu­valerua who works as a chain­saw op­er­a­tor. Mother’s name is Torika Adi­maibau and is a do­mes­tic house­wife. She has an el­der brother who works at the Nadi In­ter­na­tional Air­port, and a younger brother who is a farmer. Born on July 15, 1989 in Labasa, but was brought up in Nac­ula. Com­pleted MA Cer­tifi­cate in gen­eral hos­pi­tal­ity ser­vices in 2009. How im­por­tant is this elec­tion for you?

It is an hon­our to take part in this elec­tion. It is also a great chal­lenge. I am re­ally grate­ful to be cho­sen as one.

Name: Roshan Sharma Age: 19 Nom­i­nated: Sec­re­tary Cam­pus: Ta­mavua Ed­u­ca­tion: Sec­ond year nurs­ing stu­dent at Fiji School of Nurs­ing (FSN) and cur­rently on prac­ti­cal’s at the CWM Hos­pi­tal in Suva. Fam­ily Fa­ther is the oc­cu­pa­tional, Health and Safety (OHS) rep­re­sen­ta­tive and as­sis­tant en­gi­neer at the Fiji Su­gar Cor­po­ra­tion (FSC). Her mother is a sales rep­re­sen­ta­tive. She has a younger brother cur­rently school­ing at Tavua Col­lege in Year Nine. Back­ground Hails from Tavua Town. How im­por­tant is this elec­tion for you?

This elec­tion is im­por­tant for me be­cause it will help me to look into the af­fairs of my fel­low nurs­ing col­leagues and be­come a voice for them.

Name: Arishma Archna Ram Age: 25 years Nom­i­nated: Sec­re­tary Cam­pus: Koronivia Ed­u­ca­tion: She is a sec­ond year Fiji Na­tional Univer­sity stu­dent and study­ing Bach­e­lor of Science in Fish­eries. Fam­ily: Fa­ther’s name is Kris Ram Kr­ishna and mother’s name is Rachel Bimla Kr­ishna. He fa­ther is a rev­erend at the Peace Chapel Rapha As­sem­blies of God (AOG) church in Nakaulevu, Navua. Her mother does do­mes­tic du­ties. She is the el­dest of two sib­lings. Back­ground: Born on June 22, 1991 in Lautoka. Spent her teenage years in Suva and cur­rently lives in Navua with her par­ents, sib­lings and grand-par­ents. How im­por­tant is this elec­tion for you? This elec­tion is very im­por­tant to me be­cause it is a mode of trans­parency.

It will help me to put out my in­no­vate ideas more clearly in a larger plat­form. Build a bet­ter un­der­stand­ing be­tween the stu­dents at FNU (CAFF) and the staff.
