Women learn quilt mak­ing

Atwo-week work­shop on mak­ing quilts for beds, pil­low cases and other items con­cluded yes­ter­day at the Lat­ter-day Saints Church in Lau­toka. The 53 women un­der­went train­ing dur­ing the day and night un­der the ex­per­tise of Frances Pique­mal from Syd­ney, Aus­tralia.

“I just pro­vided the cut­ters, rulers, mats and other sewing items which the ladies used,” Ms Pique­mal said.

This is the third work­shop in Fiji with the other two al­ready held in Tave­uni and Nadi. “I just wanted to share what I love do­ing and it was a bless­ing teach­ing the lo­cal women here,” Ms Pique­mal said. She said there was tal­ent al­ready in most of the women and this showed with some mak­ing items from used clothing. She was as­sisted by Sandy Tol­man from the United States over the two weeks. The items made were on sale for rea­son­able prices.
