Women learn quilt making
Atwo-week workshop on making quilts for beds, pillow cases and other items concluded yesterday at the Latter-day Saints Church in Lautoka. The 53 women underwent training during the day and night under the expertise of Frances Piquemal from Sydney, Australia.
“I just provided the cutters, rulers, mats and other sewing items which the ladies used,” Ms Piquemal said.
This is the third workshop in Fiji with the other two already held in Taveuni and Nadi. “I just wanted to share what I love doing and it was a blessing teaching the local women here,” Ms Piquemal said. She said there was talent already in most of the women and this showed with some making items from used clothing. She was assisted by Sandy Tolman from the United States over the two weeks. The items made were on sale for reasonable prices.
