Youth Group Targets $20K In Annual Bazaar
Money to help rebuild parish hall, fence for school and church
Mount Saint Mary’s Parish Youth group aims to raise $20,000 from its two-day annual bazaar, which ended yesterday.
The fundraising drive is a continuation of Mount Saint Mary’s Church inraising funds to rebuild the Parish Hall. The hall was destroyed in a fire two years ago. Money raised will also go towards building a fence for Mount Saint Mary’s School and the church at Martintar, Nadi. Youth group member Sainimili Dakai said: “We have, this year organised, a many activities for everyone not only for the Parish family but everyone else to come and join us and take part in the competitions and learn from one another.”
The two-day event attracted crowds from Nadi and. “From this bazaar we look forward to build our church hall and fence the school compound,” Ms Dakai said. Each stall had a theme to create awareness on, which included the message of non-violence against women and children. A team of nurses were also present to hold free medical checks. The National Fire Authority also conducted a fire drill.
There was also a floral and singing competition organised. Ms Dakai said: “There is a huge display of talents and we have have youths to participate in each of the event.” The project began in 2008 when Parish priest, Father Ipolito Teburea, initiated plans to seek funds for the extension of the church.
