Ad­di­tional work­ers to clean up city af­ter

Chen­nai: Start­ing Fri­day night, there was be in­ten­sive clean­ing on the city streets as Greater Chen­nai Cor­po­ra­tion is en­gag­ing more work­ers and ad­di­tional ve­hi­cles to man­age the ex­tra waste that will be gen­er­ated dur­ing Di­wali.

From Fri­day night, a to­tal of 1100 work­ers were sweep­ing and col­lect­ing garbage. On a reg­u­lar night, there will be about 800 work­ers on the streets. “The plan is to in­ten­sify night con­ser­vancy so that peo­ple see a vis­i­ble change on the roads the next day,” said a se­nior cor­po­ra­tion of­fi­cial. Ramky Enviro, which is in charge of three zones - Ko­dambakkam, Tey­nam­pet and Ad­yar - has been con­duct­ing spe­cial clean­ing op­er­a­tions in the com­mer­cial hub of T Na­gar, which falls un­der the Ko­dambakkam zone.
