Additional workers to clean up city after
Chennai: Starting Friday night, there was be intensive cleaning on the city streets as Greater Chennai Corporation is engaging more workers and additional vehicles to manage the extra waste that will be generated during Diwali.
From Friday night, a total of 1100 workers were sweeping and collecting garbage. On a regular night, there will be about 800 workers on the streets. “The plan is to intensify night conservancy so that people see a visible change on the roads the next day,” said a senior corporation official. Ramky Enviro, which is in charge of three zones - Kodambakkam, Teynampet and Adyar - has been conducting special cleaning operations in the commercial hub of T Nagar, which falls under the Kodambakkam zone.
