Ask anybody versed with the Melbourne Cup event and many would say that fashion is as inherent to the prestigious event as the horses and jockeys are. So it was fitting when the Fashion Council of Fiji hosted a celebration of the event at Paradiso Restaurant in Suva yesterday.

Inclusive of many locals and international bettors and fans, chairperson Faraz Ali said the reason they hosted the gathering was to acknowledge one of the most stylish events of the year. “Melbourne Cup is one of the most stylish events of the year in the Pacific region, where everyone dresses up with their beautiful clothes and fascinating hats to enjoy the race,” he said. “We organised this event in order to showcase our own different and unique styles of clothing.

“The council is all about educating the designers, stylists, photographers and other parties to perfection. “We want to build a worldclass, robust and stylist industry so we can show that Fiji is the centre of Pacific fashion,” Mr Ali said.
